A Great Day For A Dad!!!

Yesterday afternoon was a special day for me, I got to take my 4 yr. old son Cameron out on the bay for his first time ice fishing.  He would have been out there sooner if not for some worries by mom, but that's understandable.  Actually...she said when we got back that she probably won't see her son as much because he'll always want to go fishing with me.  In fact...he wants to go again today already.  We hitched a ride with Uncle Kevin and we were all set up by a little after 5 p.m.  Kevin called us on the radio about 5:45 and said he had his first keeper on the ice.  We didn't mark much for the first hour, but from 6:30 until dark I marked the most fish I've seen all winter.  After some hot chocolate, Cameron learned how to jig and see the fish on the graph, etc.  And then it happened...a fish hit his #5 clown jigging Rap and he was "hooked".  As a father...it was so nice to see the smile on his face after bringing in a fish all on his own.  It was just a tad undersized...but that was another lesson learned, and back down the hole it went.  As for my fishing...I lost a nice fish half way up, I lost another one about 17-18 inches right at the hole and I missed several hits.  They were biting very subtle in our location yesterday.  I didn't care if I caught anything or not...my mission was accomplished when my son asked if we could go again tomorrow.  Here's a few pics of Cam's first ice-fishing trip!!!!!

It was a great day for uncle Kevin too! Our shacks were close enough so I could hear Kenneth explaining everything to my nephew as the evening went  along. I could hear the excitement in Kenneth's voice when a fish would come on the screen and he would tell Cameron to pay attention and hang on to the pole. I should have had three keepers as one about 19 inches got caught on the bottom of the ice, then in my tranducer cable before finally coming off. Then I had one more keeper that felt pretty good before it came off. All in all, a great evening with my brother and nephew...

Congrats on your first outing with your son Ken. What a great story, with many more to come I would guess. Brings back memories when my son was that age
