I am kinda new to the leadcore world, I think for the most part I have the depth control down for use of shallow running crankbaits and harnesses thanks to the trolling bible, but I was wondering how you figure out the depth for leadcore and deep running cranks? Do you use the depth curve of a crankbait with 50' of line out and add it to the leadcore running depth????? My rods are set up with 3 colors of leadcore and a 50' florocarbon leader... Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!
That is a good starting point, but leadcore is so speed sensitive that it just takes some practice. Easiest way to start is to concentrate on one speed, then try different lure combos and see when they hit bottom. The difference in depth between 1.4 mph and 1.9mph, say, is quite a bit. Another variable is how much line you let out after the leadcore. After using it a while, you'll just get a "feel" for how deep your lures are running. 3 color rigs work well around here. I tend to run stickbaits with leadcore, but occasionally will run a deep diver.
