I spoke to three guys today that have been fishing Fairport the past few days and doing decent on salmon. I think the one evening they said they took 10 fish. So I guess the salmon are still "happening" off Fairport. Just letting folks know...
There were plenty of fish marked out of Fairport when we fished this past week. Windy conditions made boat control a problem on all but the one night we caught 11 fish. The fish we caught were in 160-190 feet of water out from point detour, most came off the riggers 120-140 feet down. A few off the dipsies fished deep. One on a copper line and three on a full core. We will repeat this trip next year and fit in a short stay at Sall Mar and a day with Capt. Ken. learning how to chase walleyes!
Hey Loyd, It was nice to meet you guys and I appreciate the update on the salmon as I haven't heard much from over there lately. Good luck on the water...
The Salmon are going pretty well yet at Fairport. Last night took 6. Landed third just at dusk and as I was getting that out of the net my buddy Andrew had his rigger pop, I moved to get in position to help land his fish and had to stop short when the dipsey on that side went. We were both fighting fish when the other dipsey got hit. We landed all three after a Chinese fire drill that is part of what makes Salmon fishing so d....... exciting. In 160-180 feet of water most fish were at 90-120. Go get 'em!
Thanks alot for the report. It is very much appreciated!!! Have you seen any perch in shallows outside the harbor at Fairport? I remember the last time my brother and our wives went, I saw loads of eater size perch in the shallows just outside the harbor. Always wanted to give that a try...
Hey Kevin, I have a new 997 Humminbird SI unit. I travel very slow in the harbor area just playing with that some and there are tons of fish at times. I am sure there are Perch there and I imagine Walleyes also, as well as the ever present Smallmouths. Of course it is a whitefish factory, have to have that to support that Peterson family! Lloyd
