Ahhhh...the second day after the cold front. It's always some tough fishing from my experience. Usually the day of the front and the day after are pretty decent and that next day can be brutal. Yesterday started out that way too. We got on the water around 1 p.m. and there wasn't enough wind to do our drifting, so we got out the trolling gear and trolled with bottom bouncers and harnesses for the first hour and with 9 lines in the water we never had a walleye bite, just a couple of perch hits and that was it. We finally got the wind they were forecasting, and it was enough to start drifting with Walleyes Choice floating jig heads tipped with a 2 inch piece of night crawler. It didn't take too long to realize that we made a smart decision. It wan't a great afternoon of fishing, but we did manage to get 10 nice walleyes and lost three really nice fish at the boat, with one biting us off. We also caught some undersized walleyes and a few perch and lost several fish as well. The wind actually got stronger the closer to dark it got, and we headed in right at 9 p.m. and made a b-line to the Rapid River Pub where the crew filled up on a couple of pizzas. Rick Boyle and the gang were really fun to fish with again, and we didn't do as well as last year, but given the conditions we had I think we did o.k.. It looks like a couple of windy days coming up and some nice warm temperatures, that should get the fish going again somewhere. Here's a picture of the guys and their mess of nice eating sized walleyes. Good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area.
