My Prayers go out for this man and his family...

The Marinette County Sheriff's Department's dive team is continuing its recovery operation in the hunt for a man who may have drowned in the Menominee River.

The unidentified 48-year-old man was fishing last night behind his home on River Drive.

He fell into the water while trying to retrieve a fish.

The call was reported to 911 at 9:30 p.m.

A safety diver and a search diver were on scene Friday scouring the north side of the river where he was last seen.

"We are very optimistic that the victim could likely be found today," said Menominee County Sheriff Kenny Marks.  "It's very likely that he's in an area not too far from where he entered the water."

Marks added the river and the current are very dangerous this time of year.

MENOMINEE COUNTY -- UPDATE: Sunday, 10:00 p.m. EST

Police are now releasing the name of the man they believe drowned in the Menominee River on Thursday night.

The name of the victim is Mark Geib, of Wallace.

The 48-year-old man was night fishing from the shore of the river and while attempting to retrieve a fish on his line, fell into the water and was lost in the river.

Divers from Marinette County, Wisconsin and troopers from the Michigan State Police have been searching in and around the river since Friday morning.

The Menominee County Sheriff's Department has suspended dive operations, but Sheriff Kenny Marks is asking residents along the river to keep watch for anything that might come to the surface.

The Menominee Marine Patrol will continue daily patrols of the river to locate the victim's body.
