Well...I had a great day off today, I got to spend some quality time with the kids. We grabbed some lemonade and worms from Sall-Mar and headed out to try and find some panfish. Our first stop was the Esky harbor. We didn't find much action there so our next stop was behind Dam #3 on the Esky River. It took a little while, but the fish finally started biting a bit and the kids had a blast, even though it was 90 some degrees. We didn't stay long because of the heat, but we did end up with 7 nice keepers and released probably 20 or so small blue-gills and rockies. By the time we got home the air temp. in Cornell was 98 degrees...boy did that change when the cold front came through tonight. I also had a good conversation today with local CO Reid Roeske about how much fun it is to take our kids fishing. Does it try your patience some days? Of course, but the rewards are priceless. I've always said the world would be a better place if every kid had a rod and reel. Reid also reminded me of the "pocket park" in Escanaba and that many people don't realize it's free to take your kids fishing there. I was at a birthday party there last summer and boy did the kids have a blast, and the fish in that pond are beauties. Here's a few pics of our fun in the sun.
