June 26th...Family Day!

Today my wife and I both had the day off, so we decided to take advantage of it and take the kids out in the boat for a while since the weather was so beautiful.  I didn't have great expectations of catching lots of fish, the bite has been kind of slow lately.  My biggest concern was making sure my 5 and 3 year olds didn't throw anything in the lake or hit any buttons they weren't supposed to on the boat.  aww  We got out to the spot we were going to fish and I thought it was pretty calm, just a nice little roll to the water.  In fact...I mentioned to my wife that, "this is about as calm as you'll see this body of water".  Now that didn't sit well with my wife,  I got "THE LOOK".  furious  Her stomach was already not feeling well with just the 6 inch chop that was on the water.  I told her before we left that she should take some dramamine, but she insisted that drinking Vernors and eating some ginger snaps should work just fine!  Let's just say daddy was right again!  biggrin  We got the boards out...wait a minute...I got the boards out, and Cameron wondered why we didn't have a fish yet!  The last time I had him out in the boat last year I guess he got kind of spoiled, we had a pretty good two hours of fishing.  We landed 8 keepers, released several undersized fish and at one point had 5 fish on at once.  So...in his eyes, that's how fishing should always be.  Let's just say he learned another lesson today!  We didn't go far today and the outside board went back...it was Noel's turn to bring this fish in...and it turned out to be a beautiful walleye, her first ever!  She was pretty happy! smile  We continued on...lost a couple of fish...and after an hour or so of not much action the kids were getting kind of tired and ready to head in.  I've always told myself that to keep them interested in going fishing with daddy, I wouldn't keep them out longer than they wanted to be, so I had plans of pulling lines and heading in.  Then...as if it was meant to be, we had a flurry!  As Cameron was bringing in one fish two more boards take off.  Now because I was helping Cam hold the pole I couldn't get to the other ones to set the hook, and my wife was sitting motionless trying to not get sick, so she wasn't able to help much.  Cam got his fish and the other two got off, but then another board went back...I told my wife, "That's a nice one".  Somehow she found enough energy to grab that pole and landed the biggest fish of the day!  We pulled lines, headed in and had enough fish for supper and put a bag in the freezer.  I think the kids would have stayed longer, but judging by the look on my wife's face...ashamed it was time to head in!  Now, the hardest thing for a fishermen to do, after having a flurry of action like that, is to get them to quit.  My natural instinct is to turn around and go back through the fish and try to get some more.  But, if I was ever going to get her and the kids back out fishing, I knew it was time to go.   Here's some pictures of today's Family Fun!!!  Good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area.

Ken,

You and your family truly live the good life!  And from personal experience I 've found that ginger anything does nothing for motion issues, just not enough of whatever it is in there to do the trick. I like eating them (ginger snaps) though!

Looking forward to seeing you guys soon!

Hooking up the boat and headed for big bay for the first two weeks for July.

Placed 5th in the Lake Trout tournament of Watuaugua lake, only fished 1/2 of it. had to run to play a litte league tournament, but not before catching a Master Anger 5.5 lb small mouth.
