I know we have had some Mayfly hatches this year, but this is the first one that has impacted us here at the resort. There was a pretty big hatch last night. Usually when the Maylies are hatching, you can still catch fish, but you need to downsize your offering. Think about using Lindy Rigs with small floating jigs tipped with just an inch or so of nightcrawler since the fish are used to feeding on the small Mayflies now. Spinners with just one small blade and small peice of worm can also mimic a Mayfly. If fishing at night, you can actually catch walleye on the surface in the shallows by twitching small rapalas across the surface. Many times my brother Kenneth and I have had walleye hit so hard on the surface at night that they would put the hardest strike from a bass to shame! Good luck out there folks...
