My brother had a 5 hour trip Tuesday and had a so-so bite. Released several undersize walleye and ended up with 4 keepers. Yesterday, my wife Theresa and I were out with Ed Closs and his future bride Sara Boulley. We started out trolling with spinners and couldn't catch squat (unless you count all the weeds we kept having to clear off the lines). We did have some hits, but could not hook them. Many spinners came to boat picked clean. Still can't figure out how a fish gets a crawler off a spinner without getting hooked! We then decided to end the afternoon anchored on a rock hump that tops out at 20 feet. I thought we might catch some nice perch while waiting for the walleye to show up at feeding time. We did catch some perch (though not as big as I was hoping). Good eaters none the less. Probably one of my best anchoring jobs. Dropped the anchor in 30 feet of water, and by the time I had the 100 feet of rope out, we were in 20-21 feet of water right on top of the hump, perfect! The walleye did show up the last couple hours of daylight, but we could not catch a keeper to save our lives! And just to set the record straight, Sara and Theresa caught most of the fish!!! Hopefully Ed and I can redeem ourselves on the next trip...
