I'm on vacation visiting my daughter in New York and while sit seeing and wine tasting
In New Yorks wine country we stopped at the fingerlakes area (Seneca Lake) in Watkins Glen , also home of the famous Watkins Glen Nascar race. Well........."
As we're walking on the pier and breakwall, I see a young guy fishing off the pier and he's using a ice fishing jig pole, waxworms and sweedish pimples. My wife sees my eyes light up and ears perk up and knows we aint leaving anytime soon. What ya catchin, I ask?
Jumbos he replies. Jumbo what? Perch. Here the lake is known for land locked trout and salmon , but he tells me it's loaded with jumbo perch, but most people don't fish for them.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! Just as he says this he jerks up a 12.5 incher and tells me it's kinda small. Says yesterday ther was a guy with one in a pail pushing 3 lbs.
I asked him about sweedish pimples and says that's all they use and small RAPS. He thought it was pretty cool that some tourist new his local fishing techniques and lived in the town where Sweedish Pimples were maid.
This place is only about 20 miles from where my daughter lives , so guess what I'll be bringing along next trip!!! On this pier the water was about 18 ft deep and clear as can be and you could see the perch, suckers and bass down there. Getting them to bite was a different stoy. Was so excited I forgot to ask about Ice fishing if you can believe that.
Later, Slammer!!!
That's a great story. My wife and I were out at Lake Havasu once and ran into someone that lives here in Rapid River. We couldn't believe it. It really is a small world!!!
