Got me a few more whitefish today. I reeled up 5 whitefish onto the ice. Ya can't believe how hard these fish fight. Only four are pictured because I gave one fish away.
Remember me ribbin ya in late November bout the whites? I told ya it wouldn't be long and you would be schooling us all... Nice job buddy, luv the post and musta been a great day to be outside... It was great working in the factory today too...(not) Oh well, make hay when the sun shines right my friend... Nice burbot too.... Yep just little fighting machines.... Nice work.
Nice Job Tom, As much as I love to catch fish and eat fish, I'd have to give those whities away. I just can't eat em no matter what. Now, that lawyer on the other hand, I'd have my wife arm wrestle ya for that bad boy. That right there is heaven on ice to me!! Slammer!!!
Oh Slammer, ur missin some good eats there... Just gotta loose some and keep all white meat... TJ- I am a R&D tech at LLoyd/Flanders ind. over 25 yrs. Damn I am gettin old......
Nice job Tom. Though I have to agree with Slammer. I'd be giving all the Whitefish away and keeping the Burbot. I have tried Whitefish 3 times, and all three times it was so fishy I just could not force myself to eat it.
Tom, I've had and tried whitefish about as many ways as Bubba told Gump how to make shrimp. I really wanted to like it too. I've had em fresh off the boat in many lake michigan ports, and fresh from ice fishing to my table. Had em fried , battered, baked , broiled, boiled, fish caked, patties, and canned, and to me , like Kevin says, it is the fishiest tasting fish there is, and trust me, with my history, I know fishy !!! LOL. About the only way I like them is smoked, and one time over at Fayette during heritage days, I had a great fried whitefish sandwich, but it might have been the 1/2 gallon of tarter I put on and the 15 or 20 beers I had first. Who knows. Anyways , I know there are a lot of people that enjoy em, just not me. I do like catching them though, and my wife loves them too, so they don't go to waste. Later , Slammer!!!
My wife gets a hankerin for a fish boil about twice a year. When she threatens to make it out of walleye I know it is time for a whittie run. But to tell ya the truth, if you skin um get rid of mudline, pin bones and leave yourself with just white meat it is good eat's... I live with food critic's (lol)and my challange is to prepare fish and other game food to where everyone likes it. But to each their own... Some people don't like brook trout.... and others eat sushi.... All depends on ur taster... and that's ok...more for me..
I agree...You have to fillet...pin bone...and skin whitefish. There is a huge difference in the two if you don't. The oil gets in between the skin and the flesh. I hate that. The pin bones doesn't make a difference in the tast but I hate spitting out bone when I eat fish. Skined and unskined.........BIG BIG difference in taste.
