Some of the best memories I have from growing up are the times the whole family went ice fishing. It wasn't uncommon to be out in the shanty 4 or 5 days a week on Lake Cadillac catching perch. My mom, brother and I would either still be in the shanty when dad got home from work and he'd join us, or we'd be home with a bucket of fish for him to clean when he did get home. Yesterday was the first of many family days on the ice for my family. We met up with Mike Furmanski and his two daughters Brooke and Caroline and hit an inland lake for bluegills and pike. Grandpa Bob even came up and joined us and was a nice surprise for the kids. Normally my kids would be sitting butt on a bucket fishing away like daddy, but yesterday they had other plans. They played more on the ice with their new friends than they fished...but that's all part of it too. Let them have fun so they will want to go again. Furball was having steady action on the tip-ups...but all the pike were like 15 inchers. I was having pretty steady action catching gills (in between watching kids, pouring hot chocolate, un-tangling lines, etc.). I cleaned 24 gills this morning which I will cook when I get home from work tonight. Here's a few pics from our day on the ice.
