LBDN Lure Thoughts/Presentations?

I fished LBDN this week with a good friend.  I had a flasher and he didn't.  To say the least, I outfished him (he never caught an eye).  We were both using horizontals such as Shivers, Jigging Raps, etc.  I have a feeling he was punching fish in the face with his baits since he never knew when one was below him.  So, I'm thinking that next time we fish, I'll set him up with a heavy vertical jig.  Any thoughts?  We were also in some strong current.

Is it possible to throw down a heavy vertical like a Buckshot, Pimple, etc and keep it vertical in the heavy current areas of LBDN?...will it stay vertical I mean.

Anybody use verticals a lot?

Over in the EUP, we use verticals almost exclusively and they're usually a lot lighter and smaller.

I use a glow Buckshot Rattle Spoon for Burbot, but that's about the only thing I use vertical jigs for so don't have much to offer. I would think a vertical jig would catch more water though. I know in heavy current a Jigging Rap will face nose first into the current, so really only the front part or "face" would be catching the current compared to the whole side of a vertical jig (it seems to me anyway). Nothing wrong with trying. You should see some of the things I have tried out here. My brother can attest to that. Hopefully someone with more experience with vertical jigs will chime in...

My buddy schooled me one day a couple years ago off Portage with a jig a whopper.  He iced some nice eats and I got squat with horizontal's..  Now I always have one on a rod at the ready....

Im new to this forum, but not to little bay,  I use buck shot as soon as the first large mark shows up on the flasher.  landed a 32" monster two years ago.  and many more.  tipped with minnow head and some guts left dangling, Ive caught more on buck shot than anything else.  gold/black, silver/blue, glow/whatever will be bit.

Hope this helps

Was this in heavy current in LBDN?...or somewhere else?  I fish them all the time, I'm mostly curious about fishing them in such strong current though.

I remember a few years ago Buckshots were the hot ticket here on LBDN. That and Forage Minnows and Jig A whoppers. I still use the buckshots with some consistency. I like to hang a 2-3 inch minnow on a small buckshot witha slip bobber as my dead stick in the shack. Slammer!!!

Ive fished all over little bay, McDonalds cove, the reefs, off yellow gate, and escy.  current in, out, and none.  Never really seen a diff when using buckshots.  Of course maybe now I'll use this as an excuse for getting skunked... lol
