I got on the ice early today and was rewarded right away icing my first walleye about 3:00 . Surprised the heck out of me since I only had on a tiny #3 GGT Rap. I was marking fish like crazy but they would not come off bottom. I thought maybe they were schools of smelt so I tried the tiny Rap. Anyway, about 3:25 I caught another nice eater. This one came on a spoon tipped with a gulp minnow. Just when I thought to myself "if this keeps up I'll be done early" the current picked up and the fish quit biting. I was still marking them, but could not get them to hit for nothing. Went through a ton of different baits and was pretty frustrated for awhile. Then I lost another that felt like a keeper on the spoon/gulp combo. Then I landed another keeper on the spoon/gulp and ended the evening catching the biggest one on a #9 Purple Parrot. I think I said #7 in the video, but it was a #9 (don't have a #7...yet) . Had one flag and the fish dropped the bait before I even got to the tip-up. All in all, a pretty good afternoon and evening. Fish went from 18-22 inches. Perfect...

confuseIf you don't mind me asking,  what kind of fish finder are you using?  I've got the Humminbird ice 45 and like it, but I haven't been doing this that long and was just curious.  Nice catch by the way.

I stole the Lowrance HDS 5 off our charter boat to try it out and love it!

Schmutz,

The power cable is the same one used on my X-102c, so all I needed to get was the ice-ducer. I ended up getting another mounting bracket too since I didn't feel like uncovering the boat to take the bracket off the dash. You can find everything you need at the Lowrance Factory Outlet Store. It just amazes me how sensitive it is. The least little thing that goes thru (even right on the bottom) will cause the bottom color to change. I have it set so the bottom is all brown (there is like 14 different color schemes to choose from). Anything small is usually blue. Keeper sized fish and up usually are red, orange, and yellow. I remember a couple years ago my brother telling me he didn't think he and his client would have done so well on opening day without the HDS as the fish they caught were pretty much glued to the bottom. But he noticed the bottom color changed when they were moving to a new spot so they turned around and made a drift and found out the slight color difference were walleye belly to the bottom. Ended up with a limit by 8:30 if I remember right...

I hear ya buddy.  I love my HDS.. Oct. off of Days in 30+ ft. you can see a perch move in when anchored. I will finish out with the Vex but maybe next year I will get the ducer for ice...Oh one more question... How does the battery hold up??? I just got paranoid about damage to it.. I'm ready for soft water... mid to upper 40's this week will turn it to crap in a big hurry... b safe and tight lines

P.S.  thanks for the upgrade reminder.. I loaded it to a card but havent put on the unit yet.. Thanks for the reminder though....
