Myself and Joe Volpe and his son Brandon walked out from the Vagabond yesterday evening. The ice is definately getting soft in the shallows. Once you get out off the break though in deeper water, there had to be close to 15 inches of solid ice. But like I said, the ice from the breakline in to shore is going fast and very soft. It's soft enough that when we stopped walking near a crack on our way back in to catch our breath, water was coming out on to the ice because the ice was slowly sinking from our weight! Needless to say, we kept moving. The fishing was great, but the bite sure sucked! I caught one little 10 inch walleye about 8:30 and that was it. Hate to say it, but I am already looking forward to getting back on the ice next year...
I'm with you about getting back on the ice, I don't think I got out enough to get my fix...But I am sitting on my deck, shirt off, shorts, drinking a Labatt's, throwing the ball for the pooch, and reading fishing reports. Guess I'm just going to have to tough it out!
