Yesterday's trip was with Randy and Ron, brothers from lower Michigan, who stopped on their way home from Minnesota to do a little fishing on the bay. We got on the water around 6:30 and had action right away trolling bottom bouncers and Walleyes Choice harnesses. We couldn't even get all the lines in the water before the fish started biting. Unfortunately, we could not keep the hooks into a lot of the fish. The early bite was definitely the best, but we did have a flurry of action around 11a.m. putting a couple more keepers in the boat. We put the trolling rods away for the last couple of hours and did some casting of jigs/crawlers, but we only caught one more keeper walleye and some really nice smallies doing this. It was very hot on the water with hardly any wind at all until the last hour when it started blowing a little out of the south. Overall the bite seems to be picking up some. Good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area.
What's the skinny with so many coming unbuttoned? Too soft of a rod- hook shape-less than aggressive hits..? It is really encouraging to see positive reports none the less.
Like my Dad use to say if you caught everyone that bit there wouldn't be any. Sometimes I think that they might be hooked on a tooth or in the skin on there cheeks. Today we had 18 keepers and double that with undersized.
