I’m so sick of all the commercials opposing the new bridge in Detroit. Building this bridge is a no brainer folks!!! Some facts: The current bridge (Ambassador Bridge) is 83 years old and a real bottleneck for commerce back forth to Canada. The state already has no authority to spend a single cent on the bridge. Hence the reason why Canada is going to pay Michigan’s 550 million dollar portion of the project and get their money back from tolls. What’s even better is that the federal government has decided that our 550 million dollar portion (that Canada is paying) qualifies as state matching funds and can therefore be invoked to release 2.2 billion dollars in federal highway funding for the state of Michigan. This additional highway funding would create 6,600 jobs a year for the next 4 years. That’s on top of all the jobs that will come just from building the damn bridge. It should not surprise anyone that it’s the owner of the current bridge (Manual Maroun) that is financing the campaign against the new bridge (almost 5 million dollars spent so far) because he may suffer a drop in toll revenues. If proposal 6 passes, this will be a great example of big money from one guy totally screwing over our state for his own gain. Anyone that votes for proposal 6 needs to have their head examined. The state is not spending a cent, don’t believe the commercials!!! Vote NO ON PROPOSAL 6!!!
