Due to the many years of experience I have under my belt here at our resort, and despite the fact I have not spoken to anyone because they are getting back here way too late at night/early morning for me to see them, I'm happy to report there appears to be a pretty good night bite going on. I can say this with confidence because................. the fish gut can needs emptying again after just a couple nights fishing by folks staying with us!!! As for myself, I'm ready to get on the ice. I might not have to wait too long either since I'm hearing water temperatures are already down to 43-44 degrees. Yahoo
I can confirm there was a good night bite for some. Some guys I talked to had 2 or 3 fish, and some hit it awesome-we did okay. I fished Friday night and we caught 12 walleyes and 6 pike- biggest walleye was 10.2lbs. Saturday night we caught 8 walleyes and 7 pike. Had a ton of those fly-by hits and gone too. The key for us was speed. 0.7-0.8mph. Saw a ton of boats trolling fast and I believe thats why some may have struggled. I can't believe all the pike in the dark...it got annoying after awhile, however, it was still fun action...it kept us busy and warm. Hot baits for us were the clown/perch suspending rogue and original suspending storm thunderstick-also in perch type patterns. Some of the fish we cleaned had 4-5inch perch in their bellies-makes sense since we fished weeds 6-12 feet. Hope this helps....bring on the ice!!!
