Whew, for awhile there I was seriously worried we were still going to have ice on the opening day of walleye season here on Little Bay de Noc. But the ice is on its way out today!!! As of about 2:00 this afternoon, the lower half of the upper bay was ice free and the docks were being put in at Kipling. Since we currently have hurricane force south winds, I think the rest of the ice should push out today too. One dock was in at Gladstone when I drove by. A couple friends of mine caught 50 perch yesterday and they were all from 11-13 inches. The big news though is that every single one of them had already spawned out so they obviously spawned under the ice. All in all, things are looking up!!!

Hey Kevin, is this as late as you can remember a significant amount of ice on Little Bay de Noc?
Absolutely!!! Once when Kenneth and I came up to fish Big Bay de Noc before moving up here, a local told us the ice did not blow out until May 10th that year. Don't know if he was BSing us or not. I think that would have been 1994, 1995, or 1996. That's the best I can do as memory ain't what it used to be...
