Finally had my first trip of the season yesterday with great client Dale DeWildt and his son Mark and his two sons Ty and Drake. I cautioned them before we headed out that the fishing had been tough, but we were determined to keep plugging away until we found some action somewhere. We started out fishing in the Escanaba River yesterday morning, we did see a few fish caught, but the only fish we landed was a fat male steelhead. We then went for a long boat ride south...no fish, went for a long boat ride north...no fish, finally tried a spot in the middle and bingo...fish on! We ended up having enough time to land 5 walleyes and some perch. Today...we went right back to the spot we ended up at yesterday and dropped the anchor once and never moved the whole morning. We pitched jigs/crawlers for the walleyes (landing 9 eaters) and used perch rigs for the perch (kept 50) with crawler pieces, minnows, and leafworms. It was a very fun morning with some great guys. Young Drake, only 6 yrs. old landed some nice jumbos today and his older brother Ty put the smackdown on his dad and grandpa, which I don't think either of them minded. Here's some pictures of today's fishing, good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area.
Thanks Ken for a good weekend of fishing. Saturday was slow but the kids had a blast on Sunday but hey, thats fishing. Sitting here at work and all I can think of is I wish I was still catching those dandy perch!
