Finally, after 3 weeks waiting for my motor to get fixed, we got back on the water this past weekend. I fished with long time clients and good friends Henry and 86 years young Gene Otten. Henry's son Nick usually comes too, but he's busy working now after graduating from college last year. I've fished with these great guys for many years and look forward to the great fellowship and great conversations. We headed out Friday about 3 p.m. and didn't have much luck, only landing 4 keepers, some sheepshead, and undersized walleyes. Saturday, again, was not a great day. We ended up with only 5 keepers, many undersized walleyes, and some junk fish. Yesterday was starting out to be about the same until we found some warmer dirtier water. We only had one keeper in the boat at 1 p.m., and by 3:30 we had added 14 more for our limit. We pitched 1/4 oz. chartreuse jigs and 1/2 crawlers for most of the fish, but Gene also found several biters drifting with floating jigs tipped with 1/2 crawlers. You never know when the fish will turn on, so you have to be patient and keep fishing until that "window" opens up. We've been fortunate over the years to have pretty good success most trips, however the first two days this year had me perplexed and a little frustrated. I did see some alewives and some mayfly husks on the water, so that might have something to do with the bigger fish being a little more elusive right now. Good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area.
Good to see Gennie is doing well and catchin a nice rack o fish. I'll have to send the pics and video to my folks in West Bend. They'll get a kick out of that!!! Congrats on a good trip. Slammer!!!
