The same guys (Brian, John, Matt, and Mark) have seen the bite drop off quite a bit on Big Bay the past couple days. They have still caught some nice fish, but not like they were. Another mounter was caught though by John Holloway that was just over 9 lbs. They had a couple other friends show up Thursday, and one of them (John Kellogg) caught his mounter yesterday that was 30 inches and 9 1/2 pounds. My brother Kenneth and I were out this morning for a couple hours and ended up with 3 eaters. One of which coughed up a small smelt. We marked a pretty good number of fish, but could not get them to hit. Kenneth caught his keeper on a Williams Wabler spoon tipped with a minnow tail. The first keeper I caught also hit a spoon, but it was tipped with a Gulp minnow. My 2nd keeper took a #8 Holographic Gold/Orange Ice Darter. The biggest fish I marked all morning was right before we left at 10:15 but it would not commit! I had it 8 feet off bottom for what seemed like 5 minutes before it got bored (I guess) and left. Pretty nice morning out there, I was surprised how few folks we saw on the ice. Good luck on the ice folks...

Hi Kevin,

Trying to get some info on the Big Bay fishing.  Where were the guys launching off to fish Big Bay?  Were they driving trucks out or just sleds and quads?  Do you know if they had any luck jigging or all on tipups?  Any reports on Nahma or Ogontz?

Thanks for any help you can offer - Greg Schuetter, Mstq

Greg,
The guys were using snowmobiles and quads and fishing Ogantz Bay for the most part. They used the Ogantz Boat launch access. They were actually targeting big pike, but kept catching big walleye. Most (if not all) the fish were caught on tip-ups using 10 inch suckers for bait. The walleye were coming early and late in the day with a couple nice pike caught during the mid-day hours. They didn't catch the 45 inch pike they were looking for, but 5 out of the 6 guys caught mounter walleye's, so they were still extremely happy. Oh, they were keeping their suckers just a foot off bottom in 12-17 feet of water. Good luck...

Thanks for the info Kevin.  Tried it out there tonight with my wife.  Ice and water are so clear we drove out real slow and found a nice patch of green cabbage weeds (you could see the bottom even when driving the wheeler) in about 11' of water.  Ended up losing one nice walleye at the hole jigging a swedish pimple and minnow head.  No bites on the flags.  Did see one truck out there but must have come off Nahma.  Had a good 12"-16" of ice.
