I'v heard reports of the wind over the weekend doing some damage going to the ice (vehicles going down) as far up as kipling. Is there any truth to this? Also heard there was more coal ships coming in?

I think there were 4 trucks, a car, and a quad that went in the drink on Saturday (nobody hurt). Probably all the mishaps could have been avoided with a little common sense. The quad drove into a rivermouth, and I beleive the trucks and car all broke through while crossing pressure cracks and heaves. There's still plenty of safe ice for quads and snowmobiles, but there is no way I would drive a vehicle out there. It's been a very mild winter, period. That said, you will find 12-15 inches of ice from Gladstone north. I heard about the boat coming in too, but I don't think it's true. I'm going to call about that tomorrow and will post what I find out. I don't think I have ever seen a boat come into Gladstone this late in January. They are still coming into Escanaba though.
