My brother Kenneth and I got out for the last couple hours today and got skunked. I should say got skunked on keepers that is. Kenneth was fishing deeper than I was (42 feet) and never marked squat tonight. I on the other hand marked loads of fish in 35 feet of water, but the vast majority were just dinks. The first fish I hooked though was a keeper of about 20 inches. I was enjoying watching it thrash around about 10-12 feet below the ice (maybe for too long). Well, I watched it thrash my Rapala right out of it's mouth! I then managed to catch 5 or 6 dinks with a couple that were as close to 15 inches as you can get without actually touching the 15 inch mark on my measuring board. Then I finally hooked into another keeper of about 17 inches and had this one come off right in the hole.  I made a lunge for for it, but missed. Kenneth's highlight of the evening was having a flag with a really nice fish on it. But it eventually did a couple head shakes and broke the line. This was just after I lost the one in the hole. Kenneth called me on the radio and said " not our day is it ". After releasing one of the 14 7/8 fish, I told him on the radio that I just released a dink that hit a #7 UFR. To which he replied, " a what?". When you see the picture of this thing, you should be able to figure out what UFR stands for... Even when the fishing is not so great, we still manage to have a great time!
