New Lure Test May 22nd, 2010

My brother Kenneth and his good friend Captain Jay Nieman
http://www.ifnwhen.com/  and Jay's dad Tom made a quick  trip this afternoon to see how a new in-line weight/harness system works out here on Little Bay. Jay tested it out on Lake Erie last summer with impressive results. Looks like it works pretty good up here too! I'm sure they will be adding these lures to their www.icedarter.net on-line store in the very near future. Some guests of ours also caught some nice fish this afternoon too. A little south wind goes a long ways....

Are you fishing them on the bottom or how do you present them?  Looks easier than bottom bouncers.

You can run them for suspended fish or on the bottom, just depends on where the fish are.  We did some testing with the 3/4 oz. weights yesterday and found that we were letting out about 29 feet of line to keep them just off bottom in 20 fow. at 1 mph.  We also fished in 11 fow and were letting out 12 to 13 feet to keep them off bottom a foot or two at 1 mph.  We plan on testing the 1 oz. weights the next couple of days.

We did some more testing yesterday evening with the 1 oz. weights trying to figure out a depth chart.  It seems that because of the nice horizontal travel through the water, you don't have to let out as much line as with most in-line weights.  With the 1 oz. weight in 20 fow, we were only letting out 22 - 23 feet to keep it just off bottom.  In shallower water like 10 feet, letting out 9-10 feet was perfect, there was virtually no drop back to the baits.  We'll do more testing in the coming weeks!  Good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area.

We will have them in the store soon, working on painting up some weights the next couple of days, should have them at Sall-Mar by the weekend.

Purple demon, green emerald, firetiger, candy purple, purple flash, and a few others if time permits.  As of now it looks like the price of the harnesses will be around $1.50 and the weights should be in that price range also, maybe slightly more.  Everything is hand-made, powder painted and baked, so they are very time consuming.  Good luck fishing...
