Though I only landed one pike this evening, I had 3 others hooked and at least another half a dozen strike... but miss my spinnerbait. With the bright sun today, the pike were really hitting short. I would love to be out there on a dark cloudy day. Just about any place you find weeds, there are pike. I found pike at the mouth of the Whitefish River, Nelson's Bay, the break just south of the Day's River, and center reef. The one I caught while the camera was rolling was only in 3 feet of water. I pulled spinners for a short time, but only caught a small perch. Ended the evening anchored on a rock pile and fan casting the area for walleye but never had a hit. I did have a couple bites on my bobber/leech pole, but just little ones I think. What a beautiful sunset we had tonight. Word from the wise, if you are coming back into the Rapid River launch after dark, make sure you have some bug dope on as the mosquitoes are ferocious!!! You would think I had a sign on my back that said "blood bank"...
I landed 5 pike casting spinnerbaits in the Escanaba harbor, and the weed bed near the Municipal Dock last night. I lost or missed at least as many as I landed. Mostly all small fish. One of the ones that got off next to the boat was pushing 30 inches.
