Walleye bite tough... 9/19/2010

Wah....I haven't seen the walleye bite this tough in a long, long time. Infact, the previous two times I remember it being this bad, the exact same thing had happened. We had very warm water temperatures but then had cold front after cold front and the water temperature plummited in a very short time. Only about 3 weeks ago we had 81 degree water temperatures at the north end of the bay. The temp. now is in the upper 50's!!! The walleye have lockjaw like you wouldn't believe. I'm sure once the fish get used to the colder water, they will start feeding again. But how long that will take, who knows. The bite is a little better at night, but still not what you would expect if fishing at night. On the plus side, the colder water has the perch and smallmouth bass feeding like a banshee. I saw a really nice catch of perch this last week and most were in the 11-13 inch range. I think I need to go perch fishing!!! Kevin Lee

Had a tough day on the 19th as well. went to Cedar R. fished structures to the north from 2 until 7 or so, skunk. Marked fish belly-to-the-bottom in 36-40', a few on breaks in the 20-28' range, but not many. Harnesses and cranks, shallow, deep and in-between. Side note, large net complex off the Fox Park (Deer Creek) area. Shallowest marker is in about 35', another set off Deadman's. Odd that you mentioned perch, Esther and I were thinking of trying for some on Wednesday.
