My wife Theresa and I got on the ice for the first time this afternoon and were set-up and fishing by 3:00. I left her in the shack with a video camera running while I went and sat on a bucket about 30 yards away just so we could try two spots at the same time. She was in 28 feet of water and it was about 30 feet where I was. I had two keepers by 4:00! Theresa lost her first fish and admitted he horsed it a little because it was her first one of the season. But she then caught a nice 18 incher to go with my 3 keepers of 16, 18, and 24 inches. I was going to let the 24 incher go until I realized "she" was a "he" after looking at it more while unhooking it. So in the box it went! So all in all, not a bad start. I went 5 for 5 total releasing a couple 10 inch dinks. My first fish came on the #8 Holographic Purple Ice Darter and the other two on #9 Green Glow Tiger Jiggin' Raps. I think (not positive) Theresa had her fish hit the #8 Holographic Blue/Green Ice Darter. We went out from the Vagabond and had 4-6 inches of ice. The fish were actually much more active when we first got out and I think they might be feeding all day long due to the water being much more stained than usual. I would love to be able to stay out the whole day and find out if I'm right! One of these days...
