I had plenty of fish move through yesterday evening, but could not get a single one to bite! Saw Chris Wahl heading out to the hump off Gladstone, hopefully he did better than I did. Just sold some wigglers to a local guy that is still catching smelt up in Nelson's Bay. That's crazy! This is the first winter since we moved here in 1996 that smelt have been way up in Nelson's Bay for most of the winter. On a positive note, I had some fresh Burbot last night (thank's Ron) and it could not have been better. My dad took a couple bites, looked at me, and said "that might be better than walleye". Definately need to go on "The Great Burbot Hunt" one of these nights...
Caught two 18-19 inchers, and missed four more bites. The bite seemed to be much better last night, compared to the previous two days, (I didn't catch anything those two trips, Diane got one undersized fish.) Got them ripping a #9 Glow Hot Perch Rap at least 4 feet off bottom. Buddy of ours limited out last night. He had three fish before I even got out on the ice! Guess I'm going to have to try to get out a little bit earlier.
