On the water video from May 26th charter...

Did a test run letting a video camera run for the whole day on yesterdays charter. Learned 3 things. First, need to re-route the power cable to the camera away from the sonars because of electrical interference (sorry for the annoying ticking noise) 2nd, need to position it in a different spot so clients don't brush up against it and accidently shut it off half way thru the day! Plus the upright holding the windshield can be seen along the left side of the frame blocking a little bit of the view. 3rd, need a more powerful computer so it doesn't take forever and a day downloading 32 gigabytes of video!!! I thought my computer was going to explode. The cooling fan was in high gear and I'm surprised I didn't see smoke bellowing out. But all in all, not too bad for the first time trying this. We'll keep tweeking things as we go...

I am adjusting my bow-mount trolling motor.  It was so windy that I had to have two trolling socks out and my bow-mount spun in reverse on the 4 setting to slow me down to .9 - 1.0 mph...which is the speed we had to be to get bit after the cold front.  The water temp. had fallen from 62 to 54...so going slow was a must!  It's kind of like playing a video game some days.

You said it!

Its frustrating to have your paid guide outfishing you. Some clients may not be as understanding.

We were able to learn from this by watching the difference in what he was doing and capitalized on it later and through the weekend.  However,  I would suggest that the guide should be the one to talk through the details and differences -- things like lure color, amount of line out and more importantly techniques like keeping your finger on the line waiting longer and then setting the hook.

Not much you can do about the 'feel' of the fish biting super soft (especially with frozen fingers) because Ken is a helluva fisherman and expert at finding and bringing in the fish, a super hard and efficient worker for his guests on the water.   But, at least the technique of it is a good thing to pass along and work with the clients to improve their fishing.
