LANSING – With Michigan’s summer tourism season in full swing, the Pure Michigan Facebook page External Link has reached a record of more than 300,000 fans – the highest number of fans for any state tourism Facebook page in the nation.

The
Pure Michigan eNewsletter External Link has also passed the 300,000 subscriber mark. The free eNewsletter recently had a spike in sign-ups, with nearly 30,000 new subscriptions during the month of June.

“Whether through social media, newsletters or our Pure Michigan advertising campaign, our marketing efforts work to attract visitors to Michigan in order to create jobs and generate a positive impact for Michigan’s economy,” said George Zimmermann, Vice President for Travel Michigan, part of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “With so many active fans, the Pure Michigan Facebook page serves as an excellent forum to discover things to do and experience in Michigan.”

In addition to regular updates from Travel Michigan, the Pure Michigan Facebook page allows fans to have conversations about destinations and events across Michigan and post their Pure Michigan photos and experiences.

The Pure Michigan Facebook page has also begun utilizing the Facebook Question app to give fans an opportunity to answer a Pure Michigan question every week. The first question posted – What is your favorite Michigan made food? – received more than 75,000 votes in just 24 hours.

The number two state tourism Facebook site in the nation is Colorado with just over 279,000 fans. In addition to having a Facebook presence, Pure Michigan also has thousands of followers on Twitter.

The eNewsletter includes ideas to help plan Michigan getaways, including festival and event highlights, special promotions from featured destinations, deals, packages and shopping trips and a run-down on seasonal outdoor activities. Approximately half of the subscribers to the eNewsletter live out-of-state, while the other half are Michigan residents.

Individuals who want information on what’s happening in Michigan beyond travel and tourism can visit the
Michigan Advantage Facebook External Link page or sign up for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation eNewsletter External Link.

The travel and tourism industry generated $17.2 billion in Michigan last year and helped create an estimated 152,600 jobs statewide. 2011 also saw spending by out-of-state visitors surpass that of Michigan residents for the first time.

Glad they got it back on. Got a buddy out in Oregon who has seen the advertisement. It's money well spent
