It was day 3 fishing with the Ottens for my brother Kenneth. It started off pretty good with grandpa Gene getting on a hot streak right from the "get go". They had several nice ones come unhooked, but still had 7 keepers by noon. All 7 were caught trolling with Walleye's Choice harnesses. They took a short break and went back out for a couple more hours and drifted since the wind kind of screwed things up for trolling, but never caught another keeper. Caught several more fish, just no keepers. But that's fishing, can't slay them every day...

WEEKEND WRAP-UP!

The last three days, fishing with the Otten family, was lots of fun even though we had some tough conditions on Friday and Sunday with high winds.  Friday afternoon's trip we were south of Gladstone in some deeper water trolling Walleyes Choice spinners.  We didn't get on the fish right away, but once we found some active fish it was pretty steady action right up until the sun started to go down.  It was very windy and I had to have three drift socks out and my trolling motor spun around in reverse to slow us down, but we managed 11 keepers.  Saturday was much nicer, a little wind in the morning, but then it got flat calm and we could stay on top of our fish pretty good.  Again, we were trolling walleyes choice spinners behind bottom bouncers in 27 to 30 feet of water.  We did make one stop to a spot north of Gladstone near some weeds where we picked up one really nice fish, lost a nice fish, and released a short fish...then it was time to head in with 10 keepers in the well.  Yesterday...well...that was brutal!  A strong west/northwest wind was blowing as soon as we hit the water around 8 a.m. and it only got worse as the day went on.  Our first pass was our best pass, we landed 5 nice fish right away and lost a few.  Consecutive passes in the same area only got us two more keepers the rest of the day.  The fish were there, however they hunkered right down on the bottom and just weren't biting very good.  We ended up letting out some more line and basically dragging the bottom and this did get us a couple of fish and we lost several nice fish that just weren't hooked real well.  The fish we did get were barely hooked or came off right in the net.  We did a little drifting after it got too tough to troll effectively and we only caught a few short fish while drifting with floating jigs and crawler halves.  These fronts coming through every other day isn't good, hopefully we'll get some nice stable weather and nicer conditions to fish in.  Tomorrow's forecast...South/Southwest winds at 20-30 mph!   evileye  UGHHHHHHHHHHHH!  Good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area.  Walleyes Choice I-34 and I-62 were by far catching more fish than other colors we tried over the weekend.  Keith's harnesses withstood the net stakes pretty good too, many times we'd get snagged on one and they'd come off with maybe a little bend in a hook that we'd have to fix.  It's nice to have good tackle to fish with!!!
