Down in Florida visiting the kids and grandbaby (We have a weird family, the old folks moved north, the kids went to Florida). Anyway, we enjoy the fun and family times down here, fishing isn't bad either. The big guy is a goliath Grouper, a protected species, C&R only. First, start with a 5# minnow...... The dock picture is the pile of snappers etc. that we brought home for the table. Most groupers are out of season, probably released 75-100 of them between the 5 of us. The capt. had to rig 2 big outfits together for the goliath, I failed bad a couple times going solo trying to keep one out of the rocks. This one is in the 250-300# range.
Damn Frank, catfish don't seem so big to me now! Glad to see your enjoying yourselves down there. Still hardly any snow here. Not much of a winter. Still had open water off Escanaba just a few days ago. Give Esther a hug for me...
I am catching a bunch of cats too. When I go out on the local waters with some friends (Dick Ranguette for one) we mostly catch a great fish called a "sailcat". They don't get much respect down here, live in brackish waters. Very cool looking, silver with big black spots, look like a giant aquarium fish, and have a HUGE dorsal fin and big long tail. Pull like crazy, 5#'er you would swear it is double that size, biggest I've seen is about 8-9#, but they get to 20+. Good eating too after removing a streak of red meat on the lateral line. I'll send some pics next time we get some. Have to very, very careful handling them, the "sticker fins" have a irritant on them. They say it takes over a week to heal up if you get stuck bad.
