Fished for the first time south of Gladstone this year and got set up in 31 ft. Of water just north and east of the big group of shacks off the yacht club.
Slow morning only marking 3 or 4 fish and no takers. Was set up by 7:45 and left at 10:45. Talked to a few others and got the same report.
Came back in the afternoon and tried something different and got set up by 3:00 in 40 ft. Of water in the middle of nowhere away from anyone. Started marking fish right away ( not many ) and toward dark things picked up as usual. Took a while to figure out what they wanted and should have limited. Missed some aggressive hits , but ended up with 3 at 17,19 and 23 inches.
Never had a flag on suckers 3 & 4 ft. Off bottom. Lots of changing current out there. If it didn't glow bright and get ripped, they didn't want it. I think at that depth they needed the bright glow and motion or turbulance to find the bait. Had no more than 8 measured inches of ice no matter where I went and remembered the cleats today.
Later ..............Slammer!!!
