Left the house at 5 a.m. to fish an in-land lake for perch on my way up to Brimley to meet some buddies for some pike/walleye fishing. The action started just when the sun hit the treeline and it lasted until about 9:30...then it was over for keepers. Small ones kept biting, but I think I only got 4 keepers from 9:30 to 10:30. Just as I was packing up to head to Brimley my buddy calls and said the wind was brutal and that it might be a waste of time to come up, so I headed home to clean fish instead. Kept 34 and let lots of small ones go. Had a few small ones that swallowed the hook, but not too many. Gonna be some good eats! I caught them on pretty much everything I used, but the best baits were a firetiger "slayer" tipped with either a wiggler or a minnow. I caught quite a few on a two hook perch rig I tied up yesterday, using minnows for bait, and I caught a lot of fish on some plastics. A one inch calcutta crawfish and the northland mayfly both worked really well. The wind was brutal this morning and it was hard to see some bites because of it. Holes were freezing up and getting snow-covered too. Next time I'll bring the shanty...at least to warm up in!!! Good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area.
