Safe ice roughly from the Gladstone beach house to the north with the exception of the always sketchy areas off Saunder's, Squaw, and Hunter's Points. North of the narrows at Gladstone you find about 6-8 inches of ice now. Kipling, Yellow Gate, Days River, and Vagabond accesses all in pretty good shape from what I'm hearing. I'm expecting some of the ice to break up south of Gladstone tomorrow if the winds blows from the south like they predict. When looking north from the Escanaba city dock today, it was white caps as far as I could see...
Should be plenty by then to fish the upper bay safely. However there are always shoves/cracks to cross every year no matter how much ice there is out there. There will always be one from butlers island running north to the days river and sometime a second one out a little further on 1st reef area. Often time by then people will mark crossing areas with small trees. Always travel with a GPS out there so you can mark your crossing points- once on the main bay the ice should be solid. Avoid any rocky point areas along the entire west shore, as the ice always seems thinner and weaker around these areas- that's where I see the most people go through. Other than that you should be good. Good luck and be sure to post how you do when you return- its always good to hear what's happening out there

Invaluable information is always welcomed. I will definetly post our success(hopefully) stories. We will be staying at Lindbergs Cove Resort. It is a great place to stay and cheap.
Was just out doing a little recon on the ice conditions and just a heads up. There was a 4 wheeler and a snowmobile that went through the ice in the usual spot just on the north end of Butlers Island. They got out OK, but got pretty wet. This year is suckin pretty bad . Be careful out there and know where your goin. Slammer!!!
