Well, today was the last day of walleye season and my neighbor Ted and I finally got our boys out on the bay for some jigging. Cam got off the school bus and was excited to head out to try our luck. The north wind was blowing hard, and it was actually kind of cold, but that didn't stop the boys at all. We took our time getting out, as the bite hasn't really started until around 7 the last few days. We were all set up by about 6 p.m. and I was hoping that after marking so many fish yesterday that the bite might improve. Boy was I wrong...we marked very few fish and the ones that did come through were very sluggish and stayed pretty close to bottom. We had one little flurry of action when I missed two fish on a #9 parrot, then we had a nice fish under us for what seemed like 10 minutes, but it wouldn't budge. Then...like it was meant to be, cam gave a jig, up came the fish...and Cam said, "I got him". His pole doubled over and the battle was on. The fish slid up through the hole and I couldn't have been prouder of my little guy. He was so excited that he did it all by himself, and such a nice fish too. This was his biggest fish so far while jigging, and he sure was happy. Hooked for life I hope. He said ice fishing is his new favorite way to fish. That was it, only one fish, but it was a great way to end the season!
