Tuesday's trip was with Mark Pflug and John Stutzman from Greenville and Gaylord respectively. They arrived at the resort around 4 p.m. and we didn't get any lines in the water until after 6 p.m., but that was alright because the fish didn't start biting until around 8 o'clock. It wasn't fast and furious, but just enough action between catching and losing to keep us busy. We ended up getting 11 nice fish from 17 to 26 inches with all but 2 of them being males. Bites came on a mixture of both deep diving reef runners and deep husky-jerks. Color didn't really seem to matter, I think we caught fish on every single bait we had out, and half of our fish came on the poles right over the side of the boat, which makes it nicer for landing them. They were a couple of great guys, the only bad thing was the wind that was promised to lay down in the evening...well, it didn't really die down much until right when we were ready to head in, so boat control was a little tougher than I would have liked. Overall, it was another great evening, it sure beat the bite of the previous day at the north end where we've been fishing. Monday we only landed 2 keepers and several perch and some undersized walleyes. Here's a picture of the guys with their fish...good luck from all of us in the Bay de Noc area.
Nice catch Captain. I was just wondering the depths you fish in this time of year? Do you troll and if so what seems to be the best speed? I am going to try some fall night fishing and I am at the bottom of the learning curve for places to fish, lure selection, depths and speeds. I think I am going to try reef runner 800 series for deeper water. Do you have any suggestions as to how far to put the reef runner 800 lures back for fishing in 20 to 25 foot of water.
Stop in and see us when you get up here and we can show you some areas to start. Weather has been real crazy lately, with lots of wind and switching directions almost daily. This past week was a tough one for walleyes but the perch have been biting when you can get out. If we get some rain and the water dirties up a bit the day bite should improve. I would think you can get some fish after dark trolling the usual pieces of structure. Best advise is to call closer to your arrival time for an updated report.
