Been busier than snot and totally neglecting the fishing reports. Please accept my humblest apologies. That said, the best walleye bite so far, judging by the amount of guts in the cleaning shack, was opening day. The amount of guts has went down every day since. Some of our guests have done "ok" since then, some haven't caught squat! None of them have really lit the house on fire. My brother Kenneth has been catching 4-6 fish on average on his charters and all have been just 5 hour trips except for one. The one 8 hour trip he had, they only caught one keeper! Over all, I would say the walleye season is off to a below average start so far. The cold fronts the first few days probably didn't help, and there were still lots of fish spawning when the season opened up too. A young lad staying with us (Kyle Starnes) caught a nice walleye yesterday in the river behind us. He paid the price too as he had 52 ticks on him!!! Just the past couple days some guests of ours have been catching some really nice perch (up to 14 inches). Before that, wasn't even hearing much for perch being caught. Hopefully now that warmer temperatures have finally arrived, things will improve. No matter what, still beats workin'...
