Hi guys,

Just got back from our annual trip. Things were much different this year as the live bait bite was virtually non-existent. We still caught fish, but had a ton of throwbacks... Over the slot and/or just too big to want to eat. Between two boats we landed an astonishing number of walleyes in the week. I can't remember a year of such great fishing, and I'm honestly shocked to see the disappointed reports.

Our best fishing was in 32-45 feet of water near the east bank and narrows of the upper bay. The timing didn't seem to matter, just as long as there was a chop on the water. We ran 3 colors of lead core with HJ-12s, smithwicks and thundersticks in goby and purple colors. We even caught fish straight lining behind downriggers. At night we did well on the same baits 40 feet behind the board in less than 12 feet of water in the upper bay.

There are a ton of fish in the bay and the size got "better" (more eaters) as the week went on. I think the harness bite over the reefs will heat up this week, which seems to be the go-to method for most. Good luck to all and have tons of fun.
