Water level seems to be up again from last year. Was driving between Escanaba and Gladstone yesterday and I know it was a SW wind blowing water into the bay, but it sure was nice to see the water banging up against the rocks next to the highway instead of seeing dry land and grasslands.
Anyone else notice the difference from last year? Guess I'm gonna have to add another foot of line to my reels!!!
I would agree. The past couple yrs in spring been lots easier to launch small boat from shore by my folks place. b4 that had to put the boots on and walk it on and off the trailer. It still could come up more IMO wouldn't hurt a thing...
A good friend of mine went to LSSU and studied fisheries biology. He now works in that capacity for the Idaho Fish & Game. I talked to him last week for the first time in a while and mentioned that it seems like the lake is up even more over last year. Of course, I trust him to be the expert about this, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on this. He gave me a list of benefits to the fishery when we're in high water years. Some of it was nutrient based (washdown of nutrients) and some was based on the ability of young-of-the-year fish to find secluded cover and slack water. It seemed to make sense to me.
Let's all hope he's on about this. Would love to see another banner spawning class!
I hear that poor dastard Schmutz comes up short on just about everything!!!
Hey Schmutz, if ya need more line let me know. I only have 3 rods and have six feet of line left , so after retying, I can send you the extra 3 ft. I don't need. I would have used it all, but I generally fish about 6 inches off bottom!!!
Slammer!!!
