Wednesday and Thursday mornings I fished with the Grewell family from Minnesota. We headed over to Big Bay on Wednesday to try for smallies, but with a morning temperature in the low 40's after a cold front...the bass were very sluggish. We did get some, but nothing like the numbers we're used to at this time of year. I saw many fish swimming along the weedlines we were fishing, but most of them had lockjaw! I even saw a school of alewives swimming in 7 fow, so that might have slowed the bite too, there is a lot of natural food out there right now. We fished Little Bay Thursday morning, and could only manage some pike before we went bass fishing for the last hour of the trip. I wanted Levi to catch a big smallie so bad, but it wasn't to be. His mom, however, did get a giant 22 incher that went well over 5 lbs. I just wish the picture would have turned out. All our bass were caught on fat gitzit tubes.
